Arsenal transfer news and rumours

SportBild claims Arsenal are trying to sign Schalke 04 captain Benedikt Höwedes and will make a move for the Germany international in the summer.
Höwedes will apparently only have one year remaining on his contract by then and has a release clause of £9 million

Arsenal,
meanwhile, have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to The Metro, the club had been hoping to pursue a £44.6million deal for the Dortmund star, who is the form striker in Europe.  But after being named Africa's player of the year, the striker told ESPN: "Let me say this first: I am not going to Arsenal. Dortmund is my club and I am not leaving soon."

Aubameyang scored 41 goals and claimed 11 assists for his club and country during 2015, including a haul of 18 strikes in 17 Bundesliga games so far this season.

The Gunners could face a battle to hold on to midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after reports he is being tracked by Chelsea as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard.

Belgium international Hazard is wanted by Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester United and, according to The Sun, is waiting to see who Chelsea's new permanent manager will be before deciding his future.

The paper adds that Jose Mourinho was keen on the Ox when he was in charge at Stamford Bridge and that interest in the player has not waned, despite the Special One's departure.

Sorry to disappoint all you Arsenal fans but Troy Deeney will not be signing for your club this January.

The Watford striker has admitted he is "flattered" to be linked with a move to the Gunner (not that we are sure who has been making the link) but insists he will not be leaving his current club this month.

Asked whether he and strike partner Odion Ighalo could be heading to the Emirates Stadium this month, Deeney replied on talkSPORT: "No, no, no. We have still got a project to complete.

ARSENAL FANS WHICH PLAYER WOULD YOU WANT ARSENE WENGER TO GO FOR?
