Wenger eye transfer of Manchester United's Michael Carrick after failing with three moves for him.

Carrick
Midfielder set to be a free agent at the end of this season was on Arsene Wenger's radar when he joined Spurs and the Red Devils and again last summer.

Arsene Wenger is ready to make a FOURTH attempt to sign Michael Carrick.

Wenger is plotting a fresh move for Carrick if he quits Manchester United at the end of the season.

The Arsenal boss is set to carry out a midfield overhaul in the summer with Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky unlikely to be offered new deals when their contracts expire.

Southampton's £25m-rated anchorman victor Wanyama is Wenger's top target to bolster his midfield.

But he has also been alerted by Carrick's potential availability, with the 34-year-old's current deal expiring in June and no offer of a new one yet on the table.
Wenger first tried to sign Carrick more than a decade ago, when the Geordie was at West Ham but saw him join north London rivals Spurs in 2004.

He then lost out to United in the race to sign Carrick from Tottenham two years later, and the Frenchman was keen again last summer before he instead signed a one-year extension to stay put in Manchester.

Wenger remains a big fan of the player, is convinced he still has plenty to offer despite his age and is willing to try his luck again if Carrick leaves Old Trafford and fancies a new challenge in England.

The England international will have a number of options to pick from if he does call time on his United career.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are among his suitors, and are now free to secure him on a pre-contract ahead of a summer move.

Joining former England midfield colleagues Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in Major League Soccer is another possibility.
