English FA fail in last-ditch bid to persuade Alex Iwobi to play for England rather than Nigeria

The FA have failed in their last-ditch bid to persuade Alex Iwobi to play for England rather than Nigeria.
They have been informed ex-Three Lions youngster Iwobi won’t be changing his mind and has committed his international future to the Super Eagles.

The FA ramped up their attempts to lure exciting forward Iwobi, 19, following hisGunners breakthrough this season.

Iwobi played for England at under 16, 17 and 18 level before choosing to represent Nigeria.

He had featured in two friendlies but the FA have made fresh efforts to tempt him back in the last week, as revealed in Mirror Sport.

But he has rejected their advances and is now in line to make his competitive debut in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt on Friday, an appearance that will tie him to Nigeria.
Iwobi has made 14 Arsenal appearances this season and marked his first Premier League start with his first goal for the club at Everton on Saturday.
He signed a new four-year deal until 2019 in October but Arsenal have already opened talks about handing him a new, improved contract to reward his progress.
